Connecticut is known as the “Nutmeg State” for the import of the exotic spice. Here, lovers will find cities along the coastline draped in a distinct New England vibe. Moderate temperatures year round make it a great wedding destination for nuptials by the sea. Couples can even get married out at sea with a cruise ship wedding! Other venues include elegant castles, stately mansions and vast parks. But living large isn't the only option - there are plenty of small wedding venues in CT to fit your guest list and budget.
New Haven is best known as the home of Yale University, which boasts the oldest college art museum in the country. It's a sophisticated and educated town where one can catch theater performances that rival Broadway shows, as well as a variety of music and other performing arts. Gorgeous views on the East Rock trails would make exceptional wedding pictures, though it may be unnecessary to go anywhere other than your wedding venue for great photo ops, as the city has exquisite mansions, castles, banquet halls, and country clubs to choose from.
Bridgeport is just an hour from New York City, and it is rich in colonial history. Though it's the largest city in Connecticut, there are plenty of places to get outdoors in Bridgeport. The Park City got its name for its many large parks scattered throughout the city. Due to the high costs and the heat in the summer, fall, winter, and spring weddings are more popular here. Lovers can say their vows on the shores of the Atlantic at various inns and resorts or head a bit inland to country clubs, gardens and estates.
Home to Mark Twain and the famous Civil War memorial arch, Hartford is known for alternative music and a particularly incredible rose garden. In the capital city of Connecticut, lovers can say their vows in one of many elegant river or ocean side venues or get hitched in a vintage barn or villa.
Stamford, known as “the Lock City,” has multiple theaters and art centers, as well as the largest financial district in the New York metropolitan area outside of New York City. This beachside city's claim to fame may be the forty-five foot tall stained glass building in the center of town. Wedding venues in Stamford range from beachfront venues to parks and historic halls.
Remember to consider sales tax, gratuities and service fees when you plan your wedding venue budget. Connecticut sales tax is 6.35%, gratuities are generally between 15% and 20% and service fees can run between 10% and 20%. Ask the wedding venue of your choice for details.
